Regional board meeting
December 04, 2011 – GlobalSource held a regional advisory board meeting in the conference room of the Hilton Park Hotel, Nicosia, Cyprus. The meeting was attended by the directors and senior management, along with the company's two new advisory-board members, Michael Frendo, speaker of parliament in Malta, and Yiannis Vallinakis, former deputy foreign minister of Greece. The meeting reviewed the progress we made in 2011, which included work done in 36 countries in Asia, North and South America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The managers outlined development plans for the coming year. These include expanding current operations in the Mediterranean region, with a special marketing effort directed at clients with an interest in Greece and Libya.
Operations Manager named
August 25, 2011 – Kateryna Harding is appointed GlobalSource Operations Manager, with immediate effect. Based at company headquarters in Fairfax, VA, USA, Kateryna is already an experienced researcher and investigator with GlobalSource. Her new position widens her responsibilities to include client management, hiring, coordination between offices, and in general ensuring that we maintain the high standards of research, reporting, and general-professionalism that our clients have grown to expect from us. Kateryna's appointment is part of a reorganization in which we are giving greater autonomy to our regional managers.
New Cairo office opened
May 30, 2011 – GlobalSource opened a new office in Cairo Egypt, enhancing our presence in the Middle East and Africa, and expressing our confidence in the future of Egyptian business. Leah Goldberger from our D.C. office set up the Cairo operation and hired the local staff, all in the midst of Egypt's post-revolutionary turmoil. Leah, who speaks fluent Arabic, is manager of the office in Giza's Messaha Street.
Eastern Claims Conference 2011
March 5, 2011 - GlobalSource staffed the annual Eastern Claims Conference (ECC), a top insurance industry event, in New York's Waldorf=Astoria Hotel. Company networking was carried out by Jonathan Crawford and Kateryna Harding from our D.C. head office. Managing Director Bill Hutman gave a panel presentation titled "Nothing Personal: STOLI-IOLI from the Investigation Perspective". (STOLI is stranger owned life insurance, IOLO is investor owned life insurance). He compared investigative methods for STOLI and other claims and told the delegates how to overcome pitfalls and frustrations in such cases. March 2010 - Advisory Board members Bob Walters and Gen. Gen. Rashid Malik chatting at the annual board meeting of GlobalSource at the company headquarters in Fairfax VA. Despite the global economic crisis, the directors reported surprising growth and success in 2009 as demand for business intelligence services and insurance fraud investigations defied the recession.
GS marketing drive in Cyprus
February 2010 - GlobalSource directors and two Advisory Board members, Gen. Costas Achillides and Jim Paymar, spent a week on a marketing drive in Cyprus. They had several meetings daily with top executives on the island, including law firms, insurance companies, ship owners and managers, and government officials. Intelligence Online
INTELLIGENCE Online, the respected French-based business intelligence report carried a front-page profile of GlobalSource advisory board. The article noted: "GlobalSource, the firm founded by former security industry executives has appointed an advisory board on which intelligence specialists rub shoulders with former private sector bosses. The firm's consultative board is chaired by Gerard Burke, an ex deputy director of the National Security Agency (NSA) who founded one of the first business intelligence companies, Parvus, in 1984." Guest speaker at Munich, Cancun conventions
DIRECTOR Thomas O'Dwyer was the guest speaker at the prestigious annual convention of the European Hotel Managers Association (EHMA) in Munich, Germany. He delivered an address titled "Modern Terrorism and the Global Threat to Hotels." The slides presentation for the lecture can be found in our library at this link. Mr. O'Dwyer was also invited to Cancun, Mexico, where he was guest speaker at the biennial conference of Assa Abloy's Vingcard-Elsafe division.
