Litigation support
A prominent Russian businessman facing serious litigation in the United States and Europe hired GlobalSource to assist his legal team. GlobalSource was assigned the difficult task of trying to find a way through the web of offshore companies and bank accounts used by the businessman's adversaries in order to show clear lines of beneficial ownership and movement of assets.
With the client's approval, GlobalSource worked closely in a number of jurisdictions with law enforcement agencies that were also keenly interested in the subject. The team helped uncover cases of money laundering and fraud committed by the client's adversaries.
Due diligence
A Singapore-based multi-national company hired GlobalSource to carry out a background investigation of a representative it was about to hire in the Middle East. GlobalSource got the assignment at the last minute and after the company had already decided in principle to bring the Middle East representative on board. GlobalSource soon discovered the representative's previous employers had fired him for theft.
Furthermore, and perhaps potentially more damaging for the company, GlobalSource's background check revealed that the man had very poor relations with the government of the Middle East country he was from, and where he was being hired to represent the company.
Criminal Defense Support
A large U.S. law firm was representing an individual accused of assault. It retained GlobalSource's team to examine the plaintiff in the criminal action.
Our examination of the alleged victim revealed he had a history of filing claims for alleged injuries sustained at the workplace, collecting hundreds of thousands of dollars in settlements. His ex-wife had also filed a temporary restraining order against him, alleging threats against her life and those of her children. The information uncovered by GlobalSource proved critical to our client's defense.
Insurance fraud
An insurance industry client hired GlobalSource to investigate the death of a person in Russia with insurance policies in excess of $1 million.
Our investigation in Russia and the United States revealed that the insured was alleged to have ties to organized crime, had misrepresented his business interests on his insurance application, and had applied for a new passport from another country just days prior to his purported death.
In turn, we discovered that the insured individual in fact received the requested passport two months after allegedly dying. Our findings enabled our client to rescind the insured's policy, resulting in immediate and substantial savings.
Competitive hi-tech intelligence
GlobalSource pulled together a team of telecommunications experts on three continents for a leading American hi-tech firm. The company was concerned about inroads being made by several serious competitors in South American and Asian markets in providing advanced voicemail and cellular solutions .
